History

On July 15, 1911, citizens Chaim Levin, Leib Upnick, and Eksija Weizshtein petitioned the Kaunas Gubernia Board for permission to build a match factory near the town of Jonava, 1 km from the Petersburg Road.

In 1930, the Swedish Matches Trust (Svenska Tandsticks Aktiebolaget Stokholm) bought the monopoly of match production in Lithuania. The Swedish agent was the Lithuanian Match Company, which also owned the Jonava company.

After the Second World War (1946), a furniture factory “Beržas” was established on the site of the match factory, which was renamed the Jonava Furniture Factory in 1947. It was subsequently expanded several times and continuously modernized. In the early 1960s, a capable sawmill and large wood drying facilities were built.

The combine was privatized in 1993 and reorganized in 1994 into several separate companies, one of which is JSC Baldai Jums”.
